2017 had very interesting things as well as some very sad things in the number of high profile people who past away. We had the end of an era in the death of Hugh Hefner, one of the founding fathers of rock ’n’ roll, Chuck Berry and of course, one of my personal favourites Tom Petty, who’s song – Learning to Fly is the theme of my round up.
I think that is a very good way to sum up our year in 2017. We have come a long way from our first trade early in 2015. Since then we have showed exceptional growth to 2016 and yet again in 2017. In 2017, Pangea has spent the year learning to fly and building up for take off.
Learning to fly requires many hours of focus and delivery from the whole Pangea team and I have thanked them all several times for their contribution, their commitment and most importantly the fun they bring to the office. The other piece to thank is our Partners.
We reached the 100 partner mark about 6 months ahead of schedule. That to me shows that people are interested in how the IoT and and smart mobile data can add additional revenue and most importantly margin to their existing customers and deployments. It shows the market place is active and if you consider that many opportunities are easily accessed within the UK and further a field.
I am very proud of what the channel are achieving within the IoT. There are definitely a few key partners who embraced this in 2017 and I am sure this will grow in 2018. The partners who are embracing the IoT within their own base have opened doors for our connected beer product, which analyses the amount of beer pulled form the beer-tap and cross references that with what has actually been sold. Therefore, reducing unaccounted sales and wastage. The smart drain product has gained much interest within the partners that are engaged with system integrators and those with public sector customers. And of course our new Instanet product that is a complete overhaul of the award winning Pre-Ethernet product. Instanet optimises your margin when deploying our 4G service with a static IP ahead of your Ethernet deployment.
2017, has been about learning to fly where as I feel 2018 is geared up for getting airborne and starting to soar. We have some incredible plans that our partners will become aware of soon regarding new products and focus areas for the IoT. Two things that stand out to me are, how is the IoT going to connect billions of devices – that has always been an interesting question within the market in terms of who and what will be delivering this technically and what protocols will be used. We will bring some fantastic options to our partner and they will win business in this market in 2018 across the UK and EU. Secondly, we will continue to be the leaders in the large data and managed large data market. We will take this to a new level with things like our managed mobile wide area network product.
2018 already has several plans underway. We are looking at growing the team and a settling into a new HQ in 2018, and more importantly, we will create an IoT culture for our partners to show how accessible the IoT can be. We will continue to invest in our network, our partners and we will continue to have fun. Because, in the partner channel, without investing in the fun part it can be a little boring and we need to maintain that.
Finally, just a thank you to our partners, my team and our suppliers.
May you have a happy and successful 2018. It is Christmas time right now, so please make sure you tuck in to some good food, plenty of merriment and make sure you refresh yourself for an exciting and prosperous 2018.
See you in 2018,
Dan
