We’re excited to be jetting off to Barcelona for Mobile World Congress 2018—the world’s largest gathering for the mobile industry. Here’s everything you need to know about the event, and what we’re excited to see.
Mobile World Congress in numbers
Featuring over 2,300 exhibitors and attracting over 108,000 attendees, the annual event is at the heart of worldwide innovation in mobile technology, focusing on the transformative power of connected communications on everything, from government and infrastructure, to education and media.
“MWC is an especially exciting event due to it being the world’s largest gathering of everyone in the mobile industry—from mobile network operator executives and device manufacturers, to startups, vendors, content owners, and even IoT Solution Providers like Pangea,” commented Bernie McPhilips, our Sales Director.
2017 saw an increase of 7% in attendees on the previous year, and a similar increase is expected this year.
IoT: The Fourth Industrial Revolution
This year, MWC is split into eight main themes:
- The 4th Industrial Revolution
- Future Services Providers
- The Network
- The Digital Consumer
- Tech in Society
- Content & Media
- Applied AI
- Innovation
“It’s massively exciting that IoT is listed first amongst the eight core event themes this year, and a real testimony to this amazing industry that we operate within,” said Bernie. “The IoT is being dubbed the ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution’ and I couldn’t agree more – IoT will impact everyone, in every industry, and I simply cannot wait to hear what the world’s leading experts have to say and share Pangea’s views with like-minded people.”
Topping the themes around IoT this year is, of course, IoT Security and the role of Blockchain. We’re also expecting to see plenty of Industrial IoT examples and a lot of talk around the importance of IoT ecosystems. We’ll also be keeping our eyes peeled for any 5G use cases.

“MWC is an event that I have admired from a distance for many years, and to have the opportunity to be there will fulfil a long-standing personal ambition” added Bernie. “Dan and Chris have been before so I will definitely be following their lead in terms of navigating my way around Fira Gran Via de Barcelona for the four days… and of course which are best parties to go to!”
